The nominees for the 2013 London Film Critics Circle awards have been announced and the Steve McQueen helmed 12 YEARS A SLAVE leads the nominations with nine nods. The Stephen Frears film PHILOMENA, which was received well her at THN, was slightly behind in second spot with five nominations. A film which we also scored very highly, CAPTAIN PHILLIPS, did not make the list of the ten films in the ‘Film Of The Year’ category, and neither did AMERICAN HUSTLE, which we’re yet to review. Tom Hanks however, did get nods for acting in ‘Phillips’ and as supporting actor in the superb SAVING MR. BANKS in which he plays Walt Disney.
Woody Allen’s BLUE JASMINE, the Palme d’Or winning BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOUR, the applauded GRAVITY and the superb Alexander Payne directed NEBRASKA, also made the short list for fave film of the year amongst the London critics crowd, as did Martin Scorsese’s THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, THE GREAT BEAUTY, the Coen brothers directed INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, Spike Jonze’s HER and FRANCES HA.
Films up for British Film Of The Yeat include PHILOMENA, FILTH, RUSH, A FIELD IN ENGLAND and THE SELFISH GIANT.
This year, Gary Oldman will be presented with the lifetime achievement award, the Dilys Powell Award For Excellence In Film.
