Former child actress Shirley Temple has died at the age of 85. The Hollywood legend, who made her screen debut at the age of just three, died in her Californian home, surrounded by her family.
According to the IMDB, Temple’s last screen credit was in the 1960s in a television show named The Red Skelton Show, but she made her name in the 1930s appearing in the likes of CURLY TOP, STOWAWAY and a lead in BRIGHT EYES, singing ‘Good Ship Lollipop,’ which she is perhaps best known for.
Temple was, and still is the youngest person to ever win an Oscar. She received a special juvenile Academy Award at the age of six.She retired from Hollywood officially in 1950 after making a staggering 43 films, at the age of 22. Later in life, she stood as a Republican candidate for Congress in 1967, held an appointment as American delegation to the United Nations under Richard Nixon, and was appointed the United States Ambassador to Ghana under President Ford in 1974.
Her family released a statement earlier today saying: “We salute her for a life of remarkable achievements as an actor, as a diplomat, and… our beloved mother, grandmother [and] great-grandmother.”
Thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends at this sad time.
