Black Widow To Have Very Big Role In ‘Age Of Ultron’ & Possible Solo Feature

Scarlett Johansson in her role as Black WidowMarvel sure like to cause excitement for its legion of fans. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER has yet to hit screens, and Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, is already bigging up THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, and more importantly, Scarlett Johansson’s role as Black Widow.  Johansson first appeared as SHIELD agent Natasha Romanoff in IRON MAN 2, or ‘Prelude To The Avengers’ as I like to call it. She also appeared in THE AVENGERS, and plays a key role in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Speaking to Total Film, Kevin Feige dropped some truth bombs concerning her role in the sequel to the superhero mash-up of 2012:

We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came fromand how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.

The idea of Black Widow getting her own solo feature is very intrigueing, and it would be great to see Johansson go it alone. Although character development is always good, I wonder if there is enough room in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON for such pleasantries. After all, the extensive cast is adding Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and The Vision to its ranks, and one of the criticisms of the first film is that it couldn’t even find a decent way to insert Hawkeye into the mix.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is also set to leave the Marvel Universe in a different place:

We wanted to change the dynamic of the cinematic universe with this film. We wanted Cap and really the entire cinematic universe to be very different at the end of Winter Solider than it is at the beginning. Therefore when we meet the Avengers at the top of AGE OF ULTRON, it’s a very different landscape than we left them at the end of the film film. Partially that’s because we love the rhythm that the comic books have developed – each of the characters appear in their runs, occasionally they get together for a big event or crossover series, they part again, and then they come back together again.

All will become apparent in time, and I suppose I should be more worried about BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN, than the already proven Marvel formula.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is released on 28th March 2014 in the UK and on 4th April 2014 in the US. It stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford, Cobie Smulders, Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper, and Anthony Mackie.
