SAN ANDREAS looks to take us back to the mid-late 1990s, when disaster film were all the rage. It was a time before superheroes could be eloquently translated to the big screen, so we had to deal with the likes of TWISTER, VOLCANO, DANTE’S PEAK, DEEP IMPACT, and ARMAGEDDON to name but a few. Now, with superstar Dwayne Johnson in the lead role, we take on an earthquake in California. Johnson is set to play a rescue chopper pilot out to save his estranged daughter.
Below is the first shot, shared by the man himself, and it just looks like Johnson in any of his multiple roles, just with a different costume on. I’m all for the return of disaster epics, but the plot makes me a tad concerned. I never did like when disaster movies try and personalise films down to a single family dynamic. It’s easier to focus on, especially for the writers, but what about all the other people dying? The estranged daughter aspect has also been overdone in multiple films from multiple genres. Let’s hope we get some great action and a charismatic performance from Johnson.

SAN ANDREAS is released 5th June and stars Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, and Art Parkinson.
