Time Bandits to be remade into kids franchise, while The Long Good Friday heads to TV

I am very aware of the day and date, but believe me, everything that we are posting (so far) today is 100% bonafide truth. So, here’s a perhaps somewhat more unbelievable new item in that Terry Gilliam’s TIME BANDITS is set to get the remake/ reboot treatment. That’s right, and the source of this news is the mighty Variety, so it’s pretty solid.

The trade reports that former Handmade Films executives Guy Collins and Michael Ryan are looking to bring the film back to screens as a potential big-screen children’s adventure, which could possibly develop into a franchise.

In the very same article, the trade also states that Collins, Ryan and Fred Heldman are also looking to develop the classic 1980’s film THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY into a TV series. The film is a classic London gangster film, brought to the screen long before the slur of sludge that we have seen in the last decade. Bob Hoskins was the lead in that film, playing a mob boss being chased around town by some Irish hitmen, one of them being a largely silent Pierce Brosnan in one of his first film roles. Apparently, Ray Winstone is attached to play the lead in the new series. LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN and GANGSTER NO. 1 director Paul McGuigan is also involved.

Great news? What do we think. THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY and even TIME BANDITS are two of Handmade’s most famous and indeed classic hits…
