Once known for her roles in period drama Lena Headey has spent most of the last decade re-inventing herself with roles in DREDD and 300 distancing herself from her more mousey roles. Best know for her turn as the wonderfully wicked Cersei Lannister in HBO smash Game Of Thrones, the actress has now set her sights on some really dark material having agreed to star in a new film based on a Clive Barker story.
Everyone knows, or at least should know, the author and occasional film directors name, especially those that move in the horror circles. Barker is the mind responsible for creating the source material behind iconic horror HELLRAISER with other credits including CANDYMAN and THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN. His next short story to be given the movie transformation is Jacqueline Ess, which is taken from Barker’s anthology Books of Blood.
The plot follows Jacqueline, a bored housewife who discovers that she can alter people’s appearance with her mind. It being a Clive Barker tale it is of course for of sex and gore with Jacqueline able to give people the ultimate (and fatal) sexual experience.
Barker is onboard as executive producer for the project and has been very outspoken with his praise of Headey in the role saying:
Lena Headey is a marvellous performer with an incredible presence. As far as I’m concerned, there is no better choice of actress for the role of Jacqueline. Her beauty and authority will carry the day.
Headey will also produce the film alongside first-time feature director, Jovanka Vuckovic. The project is one of the many hoping to be sold at Cannes, but given the selling power that Game of Thrones has combined with the legend of Barker this is surely one sale that shouldn’t hit upon too many obstacles.
