Reports are coming in this afternoon that an official offer has gone out to Harrison Ford to return to the role of Rick Deckard in a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-if movie BLADE RUNNER.
The original film was based on the novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” by celebrated science fiction author Phillip K. Dick, writer of the source material behind MINORITY REPORT, TOTAL RECALL and PAYBACK.
Hampton Fancher and Michael Green are writing the new film, according to Alcon Entertainment, who made the offer public earlier on today.
Alcon co-founders and co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said in an official release:
“We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time. We would be honored, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project.”
Scott is said to be on board to direct the film, but there has been no official word from the Ford camp as yet. The actor is currently about to go back to work on STAR WARS EPISODE VII for Lucasfilm, Disney and J.J. Abrams.
I must admit to having never seen the original (shoot me down), but Ford surely has to be interested in going back to one of the most iconic roles of the latter half of the last century, right?
