DEADPOOL has been one of the Marvel’s longest gestating B-hero/villain films in the works, nearly being made on a number of occasions. But with the long-time rumoured director, Robert Rodriguez, finally pulling out the film looked to be done for until the recent announcement that first time director Tim Miller will helm the film.
Miller might be new to the director’s chair but he is not new to big budget action films as he has previously been a lead on visual effects for films including X2, SCOTT PILGRIM, DAREDEVIL, PLANET OF THE APES, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM and many others. Now the next big question looms over the production, will Ryan Reynolds still be Deadpool? Reynolds has been one of the strongest forces keeping the production alive, especially since he played the character in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. But his presence is fading by the day recently sighting “many unknowns” as to whether he will be the “merc with a mouth”. The film has also now got a tentative title of X-MEN ORIGINS: DEADPOOL which sees the assassin before he turns into the quiet killer in WOLVERINE.
So with a director signed on and a script delivered by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (ZOMBIELAND) it’s only a matter of time before we hear whether they re-cast Reynolds or that he’s confirmed.
