Most of the writers here at THN grew up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon show and film series so we were all a little dubious when plans for a reboot were announced. After having a sit down chat with William Fichthner (who will be playing Shredder) and hearing his overwhelming praise for the project we started to warm to the idea. So far we have been given two slightly different versions of the same trailer but it was enough to show that there may well be life in this franchise yet.
The poster campaign has of course stuck to the turtle quartet of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo with the stills released focusing on Megan Fox as April O’Neal. This has meant that meaning we have yet to see their nemesis The Shredder. This was rectified today as a Shredder still has snuck its way onto twitter, see below:
So what do you think? The image makes Shredder look massive, and it is not clear whether it is a perspective issue or not. He is also standing in front of someone who given the resemblance to a rat has got to be Splinter; the turtles surrogate father and sensei. They’ve definitely got the imposing look down and have kept to the samurai theme to a degree. You can see how he gets his name though as those are some colossal blades – it’s like Edward Scissorhands, Wolverine and Freddy Krueger spliced themselves together.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES stars William Fichtner, Megan Fox, Whoopi Goldberg and Will Arnett. The US will get to see the crime-fighting quartet 8th August whilst the Brit have to wait all the way until 17th October to see the half-shelled heroes.
