Both the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY series and the Bourne franchise will be unloading their fifth instalments in the near future, but first we have some release dates to shuffle around. First up is the confusingly titled PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5, as it is actually the 7th film in the franchise when you consider PARNORMAL ACTIVITY 2 has an alternative Japanese version known as PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2: TOKYO NIGHT and earlier this year we saw the release of spin-off PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE MARKED ONES. Fans of the found-footage franchise may be disappointed to hear that the series will be taking a break until 2016. Paramount Pictures revealed the news at CineEurope where they also announced a 2016 release for TRANSFORMERS 5, G.I. JOE 3, STAR TREK 3, and HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS 2. Paramount Pictures will also be rebooting BEVERLY HILLS COP that year and giving us Timur Bekmambetov’s BEN HUR remake.
Meanwhile at another studio, Universal Pictures have pushed UNTITLED NEXT BOURNE CHAPTER (catchy title) from a 14th August 2015 release to 15th July 2016. Justin Lin is set to direct with Jeremy Renner returning. There has been talk of Matt Damn returning to the franchise but he has said it would only be under Paul Greengrass in the diector’s role, which is a bit mean on Doug Liman who started the franchise. I really felt nothing for THE BOURNE LEGACY but always enjoy a return to the first three films in the series.
It’s going to be a very busy 2016 in terms of sequels, as we will also be offered BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE and STAR WARS EPISODE VII. Still no sign of a LOST IN SPACE sequel though, what’s up with that?
