‘Monstrumologist’ Makes Mayhem For Warner Bros

Monstrumologist Books By Rick Yancey

In a market awash with half-baked movie adaptations such as VAMPIRE ACADEMY and THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, getting the mix right for the YA book genre appears trickier than making a werewolf brush his teeth. But Warner Bros looks to have hit a rich seam with a deal to make MONSTRUMOLOGIST, which they hope will have franchise written in blood all over it, providing kids can pronounce the title. Written by Rick Yancey, the story concerns the 19th century adventures of a monster-seeking doctor and his youthful assistant and four entries have been published in total.

On script duties will be INSTRUMENTS adapter Jessica Postigo Paquette, and the producers are Ellen Goldsmith Vein (who interestingly started off on Creature Comforts) and Robert Teitel (THE INEVITABLE DEFEAT OF MISTER AND PETE). The universe they’re exploring sounds compellingly gory and that should stand them in good stead for the sought-after teen demographic looking for something to take their minds off a brightly-lit mall.
