Filming Begins On Gus Van Sant’s ‘Sea Of Trees’ Starring Matthew McConaughey

Although Joaquin Phoenix was originally rumoured to be joining Gus Vant Sant’s new film SEA OF TREES, it’s man of the moment Matthew McConaughey who’ll be teaming up with the GOOD WILL HUNTING and MILK director and now we can confirm that filming has just begun.

He joins Naomi Watts and Ken Watanabe on the highly rated script by Chris Sparling (BURIED), that’ll film in the States and in Japan. McConaughey plays the role of Arthur Brennan who treks into Aokigahara, known as the Sea of Trees. This mysterious forest can be found at the base of Japan’s Mount Fuji and it’s where they’ll go to consider everything in their existence, from life to death. Whilst there, Brennan meets Takumi Nakamura (Watanabe), a Japanese man who has also lost his way and the two men begin their own journey to find themselves and to survive.

Knowing the projects that McConaughey loves to embed himself these days, this sounds pretty darn perfect for him and for Watanabe. The screenplay was on the nominated blacklist and highly sought after, our interest is already perked and we’ll bring you all the news on SEA OF TREES as we hear it.
