In the past I have made no secret of my love for the long-running RESIDENT EVIL series, and to this day I continue to express my enthusiasm and excitement for the globe-trotting, adrenaline-fueled, Zombie film franchise. Unfortunately however, the sixth (and final) instalment in the series has been subject to quite a few setbacks ever since its greenlight in early 2013.
With 2012’s RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION once again performing brilliantly at the world wide box office, it seemed like a no-brainer (terrible pun intended) for Sony and Screen Gems to produce a further sequel. With Paul W.S. Anderson all set to write and direct the next film once again, a September 2014 release date seemed more than achievable. However, the film was delayed until next year after production on Anderson’s POMPEII required the director’s attention for much longer than previously anticipated. Now, RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER has been delayed once again, although the reason is actually far more positive than you would expect!
Franchise star Milla Jovovich has revealed that filming for the next film will now commence next summer, as she is expecting her second child with husband (and director) Mr. Paul W.S. Anderson! You can see her message from her official Facebook page below:

This was originally going to be a post to tell you how excited I am about flying to Cape Town, South Africa to begin working on Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
But… My husband Paul and I just discovered that we are expecting another baby!!!
So after a lot of discussion, we thought it would be in everyone’s best interest to wait till the baby is born before we set out to try and tackle an RE movie. Between the stunt work and what will become my ever-expanding belly, we didn’t think pregnancy and zombie killing are the best combo! Lol! I imagine the only thing I’ll be killing in the near future is an endless supply of cupcakes. Yikes…
In all seriousness though, we want to make the best movie possible and that would be extremely difficult, to say the least, in my present condition.
I would like to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has been working so hard on the movie in South Africa already and we are so looking forward to working with you all next summer. And when we arrive, it will hopefully be with the newest member of our little family! YAY!

Although it is sad we will likely have to wait until 2016 to see Alice amputate more umbrella mutations, this decision makes perfect sense and we at THN have nothing but happiness for Jovovich and Anderson. In the mean time, we can still speculate as to which of Alice’s bad-ass brethren will be joining her in the final fight for humanity two years from now!
