Scott Mann, the British director who helms the upcoming THE TOURNAMENT starring Ving Rhames and Robert Carlyle, has been hired by The Weinstein Company to direct a new version of THE SEVEN SAMURAI.
Variety reports that the new version of the 1954 original centers on a town in Northern Thailand that recruits seven paramilitary contractors from around the globe to defend it from an imminent attack.
Shooting on the $60 million movie will kick off later in the year. Mann will also help with developing the film’s screenplay.
