The rights to the Terminator franchise have finally been sold off. So which film company was lucky enough to pick up the further adventures of John Connor and co? Well, actually, it wasn’t a film company that have ended up purchasing the rights from former holder Halcyon. Nope! A firm that goes by the name of Pacificor are the new owners after bagging said rights for $29.5 million from Halcyon Holding Corp. The news was announced Tuesday (February 9, 2010).
Halcyon will now get around $5 million from every future Terminator movie filmed as well as royalties from the third and fourth Terminator films, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation.
Both Lionsgate and Sony Pictures were in the bidding for the film franchise rights, but now Deadline Hollywood report that they both are in talks with Pacificor, a hedge fund company based in Santa Barbara, California, to take partial control of the property.
Last year’s Terminator Salvation was a solid, though not fantastic hit at the box office, raking in around $370 million globally.
