The commonly awesome Juliette Lewis frequently mixes it up and it looks like she’s got another critical hit on the way, if this trailer for KELLY & CAL is anything to go by.
Written by newcomer Amy Lowe Starbin, Lewis plays Kelly, a punk-rocker turned suburban mother, who’s missing a younger life she once had and now a little lost when looking to her future. Next door, 17-year-old Cal (Jonny Weston) is frustrated at his lack of control over the hand he’s been dealt but when the two strike up an unlikely friendship, it’s probably the perfect spark they both needed…
This is also the directorial feature debut for Jen McGowan, and first trailer is bountiful with feel-good and Lewis on top form, plus it’s something I haven’t seen her do before. It recently screened at SXSW to positive reaction and will get a limited release in the USA from 5th September.
