It’s Game Over For Giger’s Xenomorph: Creature Cut From ‘Prometheus’ Sequel

PROMETHEUS caused a fair amount of stir when it came out. It was the film that fans of Ridley Scott’s sci-fi masterpiece ALIEN had been patiently waiting for. The story was originally teased as being a prequel to the famous text, but closer to release Scott stated that it was just a film set within the same universe. That being said those that have seen the film will know that there is a very familiar looking creature that makes an appearance.

After seeing their favourite space alien’s street cred decline slightly with each new film, and with the ALIEN VERSUS PREDATOR films all but killing the iconic beast, fans had hoped that Ridley would bring it back into vogue. However the shoe-horned inclusion had fans of the original series in complete uproar, with fans accusing Scott of just including said creature to generate more box office bucks. Scott it seems has taken this criticism on-board and has revealed that the sequel to PROMETHEUS, will not feature the Giger created creature in any guise:

“The beast is done. Cooked. I got lucky meeting Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic’. But after four, I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.”

The project is still in the scripting phase at the moment with Scott building himself a full bill of work; he is also working on a BLADE RUNNER sequel as well as Matt Damon vehicle MARTIAN.

PROMETHEUS 2 will be released 4th March 2016.
