Guardians Of The Galaxy & Wolf Creek Collide For ‘The Belco Experiment’

Before the cosmic behemoth of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY came along, its scribe/director was very much a “Gunn” for hire, writing anything from the SCOOBY-DOO franchise to a book on legendary exploitation producer and mentor Troma. James Gunn’s next project isn’t a million miles away from the latter though, as he’s announced THE BELCO EXPERIMENT, a horror movie to be directed by WOLF CREEK’s Greg McLean.

This taut-sounding tale of corporate savagery is a literal death match, as the hapless drones of American Belco in South America are given a highly unorthodox memo – kill or be killed!

Gunn has issued a statement via Facebook, where his trademark warped sense of excitement bursts off the screen:

I cannot tell you how passionate and excited I am about this project! It’s a script I wrote a few years ago, for which I have always had a deep love. Believe it or not, it’s a film that first came to me in a dream, and I woke up and wrote the first draft in a two-week fugue state binge.

It’s interesting he mentions this, as just last night I had a SHARKNADO-inspired dream about Great Whites attacking a factory. This may well be the push I need to get that doozy down on paper!

Shooting starts in June, with Gunn and THE CONJURING’s Peter Safran producing alongside MGM. Meanwhile the helmer’s other job – the small matter of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 – is being prepped for a May 2017 release.
