She “May” well be: Marisa Tomei wanted for ‘Spider-Man’

Marisa TomeiPeter Parker is getting younger and so it seems is his equally famous relative with the news that character actress Marisa Tomei is being courted to join Spider-Man as superhero guardian Aunt May.

These things are usually a done deal, but no confirmation has been made by Marvel/Sony. If she did sign on the dotted line she’d follow in the footsteps of Rosemary Harris and Sally Field from the previous movies. Tom Holland‘s fresh-faced skyscraper-swinger is heading to school for the latest reboot, so it stands to reason May is turning the clock back also.

Tomei is well-known for various movie roles over the years, from her spectacular breakout in My Cousin Vinny to The Wrestler. Now she’ll be helping her nephew patch up his wounds after he wrestles the yet-to-be-revealed big bad, who will reportedly be a character we haven’t seen in the film franchise to date.

Jon Watts will direct, with Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal producing. Spider-Man “thwip”s into cinemas July 2017.
