Ridley Scott is planning three more Prometheus films

Ridley Scott is to release his latest film, an adaptation of Andy Weir’s The Martian, in cinemas within the next two weeks, and as we reported just a little while ago, the legendary British film director has set his next project as a follow-up to Prometheus. The new news here is that Scott, who may shoot the new film in the UK, is apparently planning not one, but three more Prometheus films.

Speaking with German website FilmFutter, Scott was asked as to whether we’d see the original Alien in the next movie. Here’s his reply.

“It won’t be in the next one,” explained Scott. “It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise…

“The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself,” he added. “I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.”

As well as the Prometheus films, Scott is collaborating with South African director Neill Blomkamp on a new film in the actual Alien franchise, but it is unclear if any of the films will be linked in any way.

Michael Fassbender is already confirmed for Prometheus 2, which will start shooting in February, potentially for a 2017 release.
