When Sony and Marvel reached an agreement for Spider-Man to officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the casualties of the move was Drew Goddard‘s Sinister Six movie. We all got over the film being put to bed indefinitely, but now it looks like Marvel may try to make it themselves.
The website io9 spoke to Goddard recently, who is out and about promoting The Martian with Ridley Scott (he adapts Andy Weir’s novel). He told them that a Sinister Six movie could fit in the future universe of Spider-Man over at Marvel.
“My vision of that movie was a summer annual,” Goddard told io9. “So you didn’t have to worry about continuity. It was just, ‘We take Peter, put him on an adventure, we put him back in his life.’ I intentionally wanted a movie that didn’t have to worry about mythology and continuity. It was important to me to make a movie that could stand on its own. So the good news is, you know, [laughs], it slots in very well to any plan anybody ever wants. We just need to let a couple years go by, I think.”
Wouldn’t it be cool when, after the dust settles and we get the definitive Spider-Man story with Tom Holland’s apparent 15-year-old incarnation, we get to finally see these cool off-shoots, that I’m sure Sony would love to be a part of too. Perhaps it’s even part of the deal; a stake in future Spidey related movies?
