So here’s some interesting news. It looks like Nick Cassavetes has signed on the dotted line to direct the Road House remake. The director of The Notebook and the son of the legendary John Cassevetes will also write the film, which is set to star MMA star Ronda Rousey (Entourage).

Variety reports the news that Cassavetes is officially on board to direct the remake of the Patrick Swayze cult classic from 1989 which revolved around the bouncer Dalton, who is sent to a dirty town to clean up the notorious nightclub, the Double Deuce. Rob Cohen was previously attached to the project.

A lot of people hold Road House close to their hearts, and in my mind, it’s the second best Swayze movie, behind Dirty Dancing, of course. Surely it’s only a matter of time before that movie gets the go ahead.

Rousey is a great choice for a remake, and so is Cassavetes, who you also may recognise from a role in John Woo’s Face/ Off from 1997.

Aswell as The Notebook, Cassavetes also directed the Denzel Washington vehicle John Q, Alpha Dog, My Sister’s Keeper, and the 2014 comedy The Other Woman, with Cameroin Diaz, so a mixed bag of genres.

Rousey is on the fast track to becoming a huge draw, with great turns in action movies The Expendables 3 and Furious 7 very recently.

The Road House remake has a 2016 shoot planned. No further cast members apart from Rousey have been announced. The original had many key parts, including a superb villain in Ben Gazarra’s Brad Westley. We’re thinking that the remake will need a fairly decent name to assume the part in any kind of sequel, and also a fairly decent actor to assume the role of Rousey’s character’s mentor. Sam Elliott famously appeared in the 1989 version as Wade Garrett.

We’ll bring you more on this as we get it.
