Indie director Shane Carruth joins the big leagues as Anne Hathaway, Keanu Reeves and Daniel Radcliffe join his latest project ‘The Modern Ocean’.
Director Shane Carruth may have only released two movies but he’s already got a string of A-listers ready and willing to work with him. Carruth first burst onto the scene with the time-travelling head-scratcher Primer and his second movie Upstream Color was even more confusing. Despite the complicated narratives both films played well to indie audiences and both showcase a strong aesthetic style.
Currently Shane is working on his latest project, a film called The Modern Ocean. The plot appears to be a touch more grounded than his previous work, the story following a fierce competition for valuable shipping routes and will also include battling cargo ship. FilmNation, the company with whom Carruth is working with, described The Modern Ocean as an “epic tale, fraught with danger and intrigue, [that] takes us from the ancient trading houses of Algeria to the darkest depths of the ocean floor.” The producers also promised a movie that will be “enormously inventive, but grounded in arcane reality” and “will draw audiences into a secretive world filled with mysterious technologies and bitter rivalries.”
On paper the story might not sound all that engaging but the script must point otherwise as Daniel Radcliffe, Anne Hathaway, and Keanu Reeves have all just signed the dotted line and become part of The Modern Ocean‘s cast. The addition of three such high-profile stars will surely see Carruth catapulted from the indie circuit to the big leagues.
The Modern Ocean will also star Hit Girl Chloe Grace Moretz, new Spider-man Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield and everyone’s favourite chaotician Jeff Goldblum. As with his past films Carruth will also star in the movie.
