Point Break climbs to oblivion in new featurette

A couple of weeks back we attended a morning crammed full of exclusive Point Break footage. The event featured a Q and A with director Ericson Core, lead actor Édgar Ramírez and a couple of the extreme sports athletes who helped make the movie. We saw a good chunk of footage which points to an adrenaline charged feature and yet we were constantly teased about a big rock climbing sequence.

The scene was filmed deep within Venezuela, Ramírez cited the location was a good week from civilisation. Ramírez also shared that the rock-climbing section of filming required him to embrace meditation so as to conquer his fear of falling. Also present on set was the world’s best free climber, no not Tom Cruise, Chris Sharma. The team promised bouts of vertigo amongst viewers and now we’ve managed to get our hands a featurette which gives a sneaky look at the highly praised scene, and it does look pretty impressive:

Point Break is a ‘spiritual reimagining’ of the Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze film which was directed by Kathryn Bigelow. The updated version stars Australian actor Luke Bracey as special agent Johnny Utah who is out to catch freespirited criminal Bodhi, played by Édgar RamírezEricson Core directs and the film is released in the UK on February 12th.
