The line-up for this year’s Film4 Fright Fest will have horror fans baying for blood as the festival promises to reach new terrifying heights.
The UK’s premier horror event will run in London’s Leicester Square from Thursday August 25th to Monday 29th, and will present an impressive 37 films across two screens. This year’s Fright Fest will represent eleven countries, screening seven world premieres and twenty UK or European premieres.
Kill List
There will be ten British horror films on offer during the festival. The long-awaited THE WICKER MAN companion piece THE WICKER TREE will feature, along with Ben Wheatley’s KILL LIST, Cristian Solimeno’s psychological THE GLASS MAN, and cyber-shocker THE PANIC BUTTON. Additionally, Alex Chandon’s gory INBRED will screen, alongside other Brit entries such as Susan Jacobson’s THE HOLDING, Ian Clarke’s GUINEA PIGS, Sean Hogan’s THE DEVIL’S BUSINESS, Dan Turner’s STORMHOUSE, and the closing night film A LONELY PLACE TO DIE.
Looking stateside, there are also a significant number of entries from the US. The long-awaited TUCKER & DALE VS EVIL will feature, as well as zom-com DEADHEADS, and DETENTION, described as ‘the movie Scream 4 should have been’. Lucky McKee’s THE WOMAN will also be keeping the American end up, alongside Ti West’s THE INNKEEPERS, and anthology CHILLERAMA from Adam Rifkin, Tim Sullivan, Adam Green and Joe Lynch. Blockbusters FINAL DESTINATION 5 and FRIGHT NIGHT 3D will also feature.
Rabies
Switzerland and Israel will also be represented this year, with SENNENTUNTSCHI: CURSE OF THE ALPS and RABIES respectively. There will be further European offerings from the Dutch SAINT and German shocker URBAN EXPLORERS. Our Australian cousins will also be contributing with the opening night film DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK.
This year’s Discovery strand will screen a further twelve films, including A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE, the Swedish BLOOD RUNS COLD, the vampire movie MIDNIGHT SON, the Paul Naschy documentary THE MAN WHO SAW FRANKENSTEIN CRY, and the home-invasion thriller KIDNAPPED.
In addition to these films, Fright Fest will be promoting a number of other attractions, such as The International Short Film Showcase, Andy Nyman’s Quiz From Hell 2, and American Horror: A Panel Discussion (featuring Ti West, Lucky McKee, Adam Green, Joe Lynch and Andrew van den Houten). Total Film will also be presenting Larry Fassenden in conversation with Jamie Graham, and there will be a free screening of THE DEAD, accompanied by a live commentary by the Ford brothers. One of the hits of last year’s festival, this is a chance to get the low-down on what really happened behind the scenes. There will also be a number of surprise guests making an appearance.
Festival & day passes go on sale from 2nd July. Tickets for Individual films on sale from 1st August.
