Game Of Thrones director to helm Thor 2?

You can’t move for superheroes these days. Just when you thought the comic-book cycle had had its day, Marvel go and bang out a few spandex-clad hits, not least of all being this year’s THOR. Combined with CAPTAIN AMERICA and the upcoming THE AVENGERS (little fanboy shudder) expanding the Marvel movie universe, it was inevitable that our favourite Norse god would land himself a sequel. However, the absence of original director Kenneth Brannagh left fans bewildered – surely his keen comedic and Shakesperian talents were intergral to the success of THOR? But, according to Variety, Brian Kirk is in talks to to take over as director.

Until now, Kirk has worked mostly within television, and directed episodes of BOARDWALK EMPIRE and DEXTER. But most importantly, Kirk has also helmed episodes of HBO’s GAME OF THRONES, so fans can rest easy in the knowledge that he knows his way around a fantasy epic.  THOR 2 will mark his first major Hollywood production.

THOR 2 is due for release July 2013
