First look at Ryan Gosling/ Russell Crowe comedy ‘The Nice Guys’

Until now we’ve not known too much about Shane Black‘s upcoming comedy The Nice Guys, but People magazine have just interviewed the writer/ director, who unveiled more about his 2016 movie. The movie will star Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling and is being described as a spiritual sequel to Black’s superb Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.

“It is an R-rated film and it’s a caper,” he told the magazine. “It’s a little fast, a little funny and a little rough in places, kind of coarse. These guys are working-class dudes, they’re not really sophisticated private detectives, so it’s a chance to do the kind of thriller I don’t see too much of anymore.”

Crowe and Gosling are said to have created an instant rapport on the set with their performances reminiscent of Mel Gibson and Danny Glover’s connection in the original Lethal Weapon, which Black also wrote.

“I think we’ve really lucked out,” Black said of his cast. “Whether this thing is a comedy with action or a thriller with jokes, one thing that’s very clear is these two are extremely funny. People will enjoy seeing the two of them.”

People also debuted the first still of the pair in the film, and we also managed to track down the first poster, one for the French market, too.

The Nice Guys opens next May. Matt Bomer, Margaret Qualley and Kim Basinger also star. Shane Black directs the film, which is only his fourth directorial effort, and also wrote the script. We can’t wait.
