A new poster for the upcoming MACHINE GUN PREACHER has been revealed by Relativity Media on IMDB. The film is about the true story of Sam Childers, a former hell-raising biker who found God and travelled to Sudan to build an orphanage. We had a first look at Gerard Butler on set as the preacher a few weeks back, and he had this to say about the role;
‘There is more complexity in a modern day character who’s a drug addict and a biker turned businessman, missionary and soldier. You don’t get roles like this very often.’
We can only hope that means he’ll refrain from doing any sub par rom-coms or absurd Irish accents in the future. I must confess that the second I saw this poster I couldn’t help but immediately think it was a spin-off from HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN, maybe a twisted take on the forgotten nunsploitation genre, but the film is definitely based on a true story, definitely.
The film also stars Michelle Monaghan (SOURCE CODE) and Michael Shannon (BOARDWALK EMPIRE), and is directed by Marc Forster (QUANTUM OF SOLACE, WORLD WAR Z).
MACHINE GUN PREACHER is released in the UK on 18th November, and in the US on 23rd November 2011.
