After the debacle with our live blogs and our laptops being taken from us for the Optimum and Sony panels, for which we really apologise for, I can confirm that we will be able to live blog the next panel of the day, the Icon panel which kicks off at around 2pm.
We have absolutely no idea as to what happened why all of our laptops (it wasn’t just us, but the boys over at HeyUGuys and Bleeding Cool had their phones and laptops taken away too). The panels included new footage from TOTAL RECALL, PIRATES IN AN ADVENTURE WITH SCIENTISTS and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. I say new, but all of the footage has previously been screened at Comic Con last month. We got to see Rhys Ifans as The Lizard (seen before), and we got to see loads of footage of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy (seen before) in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. I really quite liked the TOTAL RECALL footage, which sees Colin Farrell’s Doug Quaid entering Recall (a kind of Thai massage-esque parlour). The footage was action packed and we also saw Quaid’s escape and his total wasting of a small army of Stormtrooper like cops. We got a fleeting glimpse of Bryan Cranston right at the end, and we hear Farrell mouth those epic words; “If I’m not me… who the hell am I?” Personally I dug the footage, and while not complete, I can tell that this will be kick ass. Superb camera work (though not everyone agreed with me). Again, this footage has apparently previously been seen at Comic Con, so again the reasoning behind our equipment being taken away from us comes into question.
The only new footage that we saw was a rather overlong snippet of stuff from director Roland Emmerich’s ANONYMOUS. The German director was on hand to introduce it. The footage was very Rhys Ifans heavy, but did seem to drag on and on. Most people with me agreed. The footage seemed a little all over the place and, while very polished looking, I feel that justice was not given to the film.
I’m really pushed for timeas we are literally being pushed into the next panel, but I will catch up with more feelings on the panel a little later.
