John Boyega Heading to HBO’s Da Brick

No one had heard of John Boyega before Joe Cornish came along with ATTACK THE BLOCK now the young actor has Hollywood knocking at his door, and deservedly so.

At the moment Boyega is filming JUNKHEARTS from director Tinge Krishnan (HONEY AND RAZORBLADES) alongside Eddie Marsan (THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ALICE CREED). Now HBO have snapped up the actor for boxing drama, DA BRINK.

The series is loosely based on the upbringing of Mike Tyson originating from a conversation between the boxer and the producer of ENTOURAGE, Doug Ellin. Boyega plays:

Donnie, who, after his release from juvenlie detention on his 18th birthday begins an exploration of what it means to be a man for himself and those around him.

The show will also star;

Milauna Jemai (LINCOLN HEIGHTS)
“Lynette, Donnie’s mother, with him he reconnects with following a 14-month separation.”,

Hulito McCullum (THE WIRE)
“Kevin, Donnie’s best friend and the one person he can’t leave behind, no matter how much he may want to.”

Kamahl Naiqui Palmer (GOSSIP GIRL)
“Malik, the moral center of Donnie’s tight group of friends who is looking for direction between his middle-class upbringing and the harder realities of his environment.”

John Ridley (THREE KINGS) works as the Showrunner and Spike Lee directing a number of episodes.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
