Motion capture technology has been used for years to create some astounding characters and now arguably its apex has finally arrived. On May 15th actor Dan Castellaneta will don a special suit in order to answer questions live as Homer Simpson.
Viewers have three minutes in which to tweet the man in the blue pants, in a segment to follow a regular episode of The Simpsons. While everything is to be submitted in advance via the hashtag #HomerLive, it’s still a risky venture for the team, who have already realized America’s premier dysfunctional family in CGI and puppet form for special instalments. Plus with the time difference between East and West coasts Castellaneta will be performing two Q & As.
The set up mirrors Season 12’s Homr, where Homer disgraced himself playing a cartoon character, forgetting he was still wired to the screen and going to the bathroom.
When a show has been running as long as The Simpsons it’s difficult to keep things fresh, and the Matt Groening-created series jumped the yellow shark aeons ago according to some circles. This time it looks like 20th Century Fox are really doing something unique to surprise audiences.
