‘Nightmare’ dreams up $32m weekend

This weekend’s box-office numbers for the US are in and the reimagining of Wes Craven’s A Nightmare On Elm Street made the top spot with $32.2 million in receipts for this past weekend (Apr. 30 – May 2). The remake/ reboot just outshone the hugely successful How To Train Your Dragon, which held at number two with a little over $10 million in takings for the three days. At three was the under-rated Steve Carell/ Tina Fey comedy Date Night, which managed $7.5 million.

‘Nightmare’ nearly made back its modest $35 million budget in just three days, a huge success for studio Warner Brothers, who are now bound to push for a sequel. The film opens in UK cinemas next week.
