This is just breaking but it looks like Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega is set to lead the cast of the Pacific Rim sequel.
Deadline are reporting the news that Boyega will head up the cast in the Universal based sequel which Steven S. DeKnight. Boyega will play the son the character who Idris Elba played in the first movie, which was released is 2013. The original didn’t fare too well domestically, but it managed to bag $411 million around the world, warranting the planned sequel.
Shooting kicks off in the last part of 2016 supposedly for a 2018 release. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and the orignal movie’s director and co-creatir Guillermo del Toro will produce.
“It is undeniable that with all his talent and natural charm, John stands out amongst today’s generation of young leading men,” said Parent.
Said del Toro: “I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world. ‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.”
