It has been confirmed that John Williams is set to return to score Indiana Jones 5, reuniting him with his collaborator Steven Spielberg. The news was announced on the press line at the American Film Institute tribute, where Williams was being honoured, by Spielberg himself, an exclusive scored by film critic Scott Mantz.
Mantz tweeted the news shortly afterwards.
Indiana Jones will return to the screen in 2019 with Harrison Ford once again donning the fedora and Steven Spielberg stepping behind the camera to direct. The news of a fifth film in the series was announced back in March.
“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios in a press release. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”
Williams has scored all of the Indiana Jones movies to date, kicking off with Raiders Of The Lost Ark, and then its two sequels Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. He also returned for the fourth film in the series, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, which was received with mixed reviews. The four films have grossed over $2 billion at the worldwide box office.
The new Indiana Jones film is set for release on July 19, 2019, and will be the first Indy movie to hits screens since Lucasfilm was snapped up by Disney over three years ago. Since being acquired by The Mouse House, Lucasfilm has already released Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which starred Ford in his iconic role of Han Solo, and it has Rogue One: A Star Wars Story set to bow this coming December.
