Leicester City film attracts the talents of the Oscar-nominated scribes of The Fighter.
The Leicester City film revolves around the 2015/ 2016 title winning season, and in particular, the story of striker Jamie Vardy.
The planned film based on Leicester City’s Premier league winning season has had a couple of screenwriters tasked with bringing the story to the screen. Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson, the Academy award-winning screenwriters of the boxing film The Fighter, will write the screenplay for the as yet untitled Leicester City film, which will revolve around the tory of their league-winning season of 2015/2016 where they overcame odds of 5000/1 to lift the Premiership title. The pair will write the screenplay with Adrian Butchart (Goal: The Dream Begins).
Simon Egan and Gareth Ellis-Unwin’s Bedlam Productions (who made The King’s Speech) are producing along with Butchart’s Knightsbridge Films.
The film will focus in on striker Jamie Vardy, reports Deadline, a former factory working who went on to score 24 goals last season.
The Fighter
“Gareth and I are thrilled to be able to welcome Paul and Eric to the team,” Egan said in a statement. “They were nominated by the Academy for The Fighter in same year that The King’s Speech was in contention and we saw and heard firsthand how highly respected and talented they both are. We very much wanted to find a way we might work together. Brilliant writers who bring another layer of top-tier talent to this project.”
“This is more than a sports film, it’s a once-in- a-lifetime story about the fulfillment of impossible dreams and the strength of the human spirit,” added Johnson. “It’s also a hell of a lot of fun. I’m extremely excited and proud to be a part of it.”
We’re hoping that the Leicester City film kicks off shooting as soon as possible once that screenplay is in the bag (or should we say back of the net)? We’ll bring you more as it comes in.
