Sir Patrick Stewart has been talking about his upcoming role in the in-production Wolverine 3, which we suspect will not be its final title. The film is expected to be the legendary actor’s final turn as Professor Charles Xavier, something that he kind of confirmed when speaking with ITV.

“I would imagine this is probably the end of this franchise for me. But the thing about science fiction and fantasy is that you can never, ever say it’s the end, it’s over,” he said.

“Jean Grey vaporised me [in X-Men: The Last Stand]. From which you would think there would be no return. But watch out in March. I’m going to be back,” he said referring to the movie’s release date.

The third stand-alone Wolverine movie, which is also rumoured to be Hugh Jackman’s last as the title character is being directed by James Mangold and will also star Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook and Eriq La Salle. Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez also have roles in the film, which we’re hearing is absolutely going after the R-rating in he US (probably making it a 15 in the UK).

Stewart teased he project more promising “a very different Charles Xavier… nothing like the Charles Xavier you’ve seen in the past.”

The Fox-backed movie will hit the streets in March. More news as it comes in.
