Say what you want about Suicide Squad. Despite rather poor reviews the film has made a ton of money at the global box-office since Friday ($280 million globally as I write this), so sequels and spin-offs are most probably a certainty. One of the best things about the film, which we didn’t hate by the way, is Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn, and the Australian actress has been talking to Tipsy Talk about potentials for a spin-off with Jared Leto’s Joker and her character, as their relationship was arguably one of the best parts of the film.
Here’s what she had to say: “I’m trying to make that happen. Not for anything specifically, but just something — there’s so much more to do… there was so much of our backstory…they probably realized that the emotional through-line of the story had to be the mission we were on, and kind of explaining The Enchantress’ position and all that kind of stuff, and the backstory stuff — though it’s like magic…there’s a lot but it just didn’t make sense to confuse the present storyline with that.”
Great stuff. Of course, there’s been no official talk of sequels of spin-offs, but writer/ director David Ayer seems game as he spoke of some ideas with U.S. website Collider.
Some spoilers ahead re. the final scene in Suicide Squad ahead.
Ayer refers to the scene at the end of Suicide Squad where Leto’s Joker breaks Harley Quinn out of jail.
“We shot that during the first week of photography. I don’t want to give stuff away but … anything is possible, and that’s the thing. For as much control and command Amanda Waller has over these guys, at the end of the day, they’re super-villains and they’re going to do super-villain stuff. Plus, the Joker/Harley relationship just seemed like the right button for the movie. It opens so many doors, if another one of these were ever to turn up under a rock somewhere.”
Suicide Squad is now playing at a cinema near you. More news on any sequel talk as it comes our way.
