The Promise first look: Terry George’s TIFF debuter unveiled.
Both Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac’s characters revealed in The Promise first look images.
Just under one month out from the official start of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, and the organisers have revealed the full line-up for 2017. Amongst the final line-up this potential gem, the new film from director Terry George (Hotel Rwanda). The Promise is set against the backdrop of the Armenian genocide and stars Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac. It will screen at a special gala at this year’s event.
Here’s the story ahead of The Promise first look as promised.
Michael, a humble Armenian apothecary, leaves his village to study medicine in cosmopolitan Constantinople. Chris, an American photojournalist who has come to the country to partly cover the geopolitics, is in a relationship with the talented Ana, a Paris-educated, Armenian artist. When Michael meets Ana, their shared heritage sparks an attraction that explodes into a romantic rivalry between the two men. After the Turks join the war on the German side, the Ottoman Empire turns violently against its own ethnic minorities. Despite their conflicts, everyone must find a way to survive — even as monumental events envelope their lives.
Shohreh Aghdashloo, James Cromwell and Jean Reno are also amongst the impressive cast.
The Playlist have given us The Promise first look just this afternoon, and Bale and Isaac can be seen in the early images from the movie.
The film still doesn’t have any distribution, but if it manages to get good buzz on the festival circuit, expect good things.
