Barbara Crampton is a horror icon; she made a name for herself in the genre playing Megan Halsey in The Re-Animator. Since then she’s appeared in many more films and has been a regular name on the credits of films at the last three year’s of Horror Channel Frightfest events.
We caught up with the scream queen just before this year’s Frightfest where she stars in both Beyond the Gates and Road Games. She was in high spirits about the festival and was upset that she wasn’t able to make it. She did however update us on her next project – Death House. Death House is basically a horror version of The Expendables, with all the big names of horror uniting. The project had a lot of input from the late Gunnar Hansen, but despite having the royalty of horror attached, is still in search of a distributor:
I know the picture’s locked right now so they’re working on special effects and music and things like that. I think within the next eight weeks it’ll be a completed project and then they’ll start shopping it around. It’s an independent movie and they have to sell it to a distributor.
With so many familiar faces involved, Barbara was also kind enough to tease who we can expect to see her share the screen with:
I had some wonderful scenes with a lot of terrific actors, not the least of which is Dee Wallace. She and I had a few scenes together so that was a lot of fun for me; and Kane Hodder I have a few scenes with. I’ve know him for a very long time and he and I get to face off in the movie. He has a premiere role in the movie it was really wonderful to see what he brought to the table.
In addition to Crampton, Wallace and Hodder, the project also has Tony Todd, Michael Berryman and Sid Haig. The plot sees two agents fighting through a labyrinth of horrors in a secret prison.
A release date is still to be confirmed, but surely with all these big names a studio will snap it up sharpish.
