Trey Parker and Matt Stone Want To Make Another Movie: The Book Of Mormon.

Comedy tycoons and of course creators SOUTH PARK Matt Stone and Trey Parker have announced that they would love to make an on screen adaptation of their sell-out Broadway play THE BOOK OF MORMON.

The play has Tony awards and an array of sold out shows under its belt. It stars Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad as pair of Mormom missionaries attempting to recruit converts, and is preparing for a transformation to the big screen.

THE BOOK OF MORMON by no means will be Parker and Stone’s first project to grace cinema screens. Smash hits such as SOUTH PARK: BIGGER LONGER AND UNCUT (1999) and TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE (2004) have already impressed movie goers and conveniently enabled a collaboration with Scott Rudin (NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, THE SOCIAL NETWORK) who helped mould THE BOOK OF MORMOM and now will assist in the production of the film.

“We want to do it some day,” says Stone, writer of the play. “The great thing is, a lot of Broadway teams would have to go team up with a Hollywood producer and bring on a Hollywood director, but Trey’s a director and Scott’s a great producer. We’ve all made movies. So it’s kind of cool, it can stay in the same family.”

It may be a while before we see Parker and Stone’s next cinema arrival but the project certainly seems to be aiming to be on screens at some point… some time.

Stone and Parker are now back in the studio in preparation for SOUTH PARK’S second half to its current season. The show is set to air October 5th 2011 over on Comedy Central.
