August is dead! Most casting directors are away so my agent recommends that if I take a holiday it be then. So that’s what I did! Mr H. took me to Ibiza… It was our first time and I was not disappointed. We were invited to see Tinie Tempa perform at Ibiza Rocks. I was stood next to (*well, very close to*) Kylie Minogue and her mucho hot boyf! It was so nice to see “The Locomotion” star throwing shapes to and supporting British Music. Having seen la Minogue go from playing Charlene in NEIGHBOURS to The Green Fairy in MOULIN ROUGE, I think Kylie rocks!
September, however, is live! I think it’s my favourite month of the year because it always feel like a fresh start. That back to school feeling gets me really hyped so I was delighted when I was offered the guest lead in an episode of Doctors. I had yet to do this BBC Television soap, although I have been in its sister dramas, Casualty and Holby City and I was ready to sink my teeth into something after the summer holiday! I was thrilled to go up to Birmingham and do my bit. I can’t tell you much but I did get to wear camo!!!!
My episode will be airing on BBC1 on the 14thof December. Since Doctors is on after lunch, it is assumed that children will be at school. For this reason they can get away with quite a lot. Tune in to see what I mean! I love working for the BBC, she is like a cherished aunt to me. A favoured distant relative who always remembers your birthday and how many sugars you want in your tea. Everything runs on time she works very fast. There is no time to get nervous or complacent, it’s very fast paced especially at the end of the day. I really enjoy working in this manner, it keeps me on my toes and in the moment. In the business there is a joke that on sets, like in the army or with air travel its always “hurry up and wait” but on these productions its just “hurry up”! And it’s great! It is an incredible discipline to be able to jump between episodes, crews, storylines and sets… I have so much respect for the people who work on these shows full-time.
Talking of air travel, I got the call bout the gig as I was getting on the plane to meet my sis @emilyrosetv in the midi Pyrenees. I felt like I was in a Pink Panther movie when on arriving in France, they gave me une petite left-hand drive manual(?!?) voiture with no gps!!!! We were out there staying with our best friend Anna filming for her Emily’s project Come Dive With Me. It’s all a bit hush hush at the moment but you can see some photos on her facebook page.
This week I won a competition to have my own channel on iMamatv. The website has chosen me to be one of their ‘modern parents’ and you will be able to see a lot more of me from October on www.imama.tv …
In the ‘new term’ spirit, I’m getting some new headshots done tomorrow. When I need a new 10 x 8, I go straight to Claire and Lucy Newman Williams. It’s crucial to have a good strong head shot that looks like you on a good day and these two have nailed it! As an actor, my photo is my calling card and is the first impression I make on a casting director. My agent will make sure it lands on the desk(top) of the right person but I have to make sure I look good enough to meet!
Please join me next while I try to pick the best “me”. I will also have photos from a modeling job I did for Hair and Make Up Department at their West London studio. In addition to the current shop, the husband and wife team have recently opened a new salon at Lucy in Disguise in Soho.
In the meantime please check me out on twitter @tropical_rose or Facebook for more behind the scenes whispers from ‘Sets in the City’.
