Has The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Found It’s Leads?

It has been rumoured for sometime now but the big-screen adaptation of the 60’s television series THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E may now be beginning to take shape.

Director Steven Soderbergh lost his lead recently with George Clooney (due to portray the Robert Vaughn character of Agent Napoleon Solo) dropping out of the movie due to health issues. A list of 20 actors has been drafted up for the role Solo’s sidekick Ilya Kuryakin (British actor David McCallum in the 60’s show) with some interesting names coming to the fore.

Three actors on that list being considered for the role are said to be Ryan Gosling (soon the be seen in this months CRAZY,STUPID,LOVE and DRIVE), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (currently shooting Christopher Nolan’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES) and more intriguingly Alexander Skarsgard (the up and coming STRAW DOGS remake), who looks a dead ringer for a young David McCallum.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
