Penelope Cruz has been cast in the role of Donatella Versace in the new series of American Crime Story. Cruz will play the sister of murdered fashion designer Gianni Versace, in Versace: American Crime Story, the next event series that follows the huge success of American Crime Story: The People Vs O.J. Simpson, which aired last year.
Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson are behind the new series, which is expected to roll into production very soon.
Edgar Ramirez will play the title character, while his killer Andrew Cunanan, will be played by Glee star Darren Criss. The Versace series will actually be the third season in the American Crime Story series, with the upcoming second season looking at the events of Hurricane Katrina.
