‘True Detective 3’ no longer dead wood thanks to David Milch

It seems the show is back on the road for True Detective, HBO’s success story and televisual curate’s egg. Following a second season which disappointed some viewers and critics, the series went on hold, with speculation rife.

Now it’s reported Deadwood showrunner David Milch is working alongside creator Nic Pizzolatto on the latter’s concept. Both have a reputation for gritty material (with both dramas containing some pretty eye-watering sequences) and are thought to be a good match by the network, though who will take the role of TD’s showrunner is unclear. Pizzolatto has already written some scripts.

Luckily the format follows a whole new story each time, meaning producers can easily dispose of the Rachel McAdams/Colin Farrell entry that underwhelmed in 2015. However Season One star Matthew McConaughey has expressed an interest in reprising his character from the pulse-pounding original, so a return to “Rust” Cohle could be a juicy prospect for disillusioned fans.

The project is far from advanced and Milch is rumoured to be reviving his infamous Western saga in some form, in addition to his work on Neil Gaiman/Starz’ American Gods. It looks like audiences will be waiting a while for any more news from this particular crime scene.
