Michael Bay says that there are 14 Transformers stories in development

Michael Bay Transformers 5

At a special fan screening of preview footage from Transformers: The Last Knight, an event we actually attended (read our report here), Michael Bay revealed that there are plans for no less than 14 stories for potential transition to the screen within the Transformers universe. Bay appeared via a pre-recorded intro to the footage where he revealed the news of the new stories, which had come out of the development process for the current film. One of them is likely to be the planned Bumblebee spin-off, due for release in 2018, which will be directed by Kubo and the Two Strings helmer Travis Knight.

Here’s the plot outline for the next official Transformers sequel, which is said to be Bay’s last as director.

The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock). There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In Transformers: The Last Knight, the hunted will become heroes. Heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs, or ours.

Just to be clear – this doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll be getting 14 new Transformers movie – it just means that 14 stories are being worked on for future films. Still, it sounds like a lot. What do you think?

Transformers: The Last Knight opens on June 23rd, 2017.
