Carrie Fisher sadly passed away shortly after Christmas and she is already very much missed in the film world. The actress had reportedly finished all of her scenes for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but work on the next instalment in the franchise was a long way from kicking off. More Carrie Fisher Episode 9 news below.
After the actress was digitally recreated for a very brief appearance in the Star Wars prequel/ spin-off Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the general consensus was that Fisher would be written out of the final sequel in the new trilogy or brought to life in a similar way. Well, the good news is that neither are happening for Colin Trevorrow’s planned Star Wars Episode 9. Fisher’s brother Todd recently spoke with The New York Daily News who confirmed that she will be appearing in Episode 9, but the word is that unseen footage of her will be used rather than an all CGI character.
Here’s what he had to say after he and Carrie’s daughter Billie Lourd had “granted the studio rights to use recent footage” of the actress for the film.
“Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is you don’t. She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi-Wan, when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that’s what’s happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue.”
We’re assuming that shooting will start on Episode 9 sometime in 2018, once Rian Johnson’s ‘The Last Jedi’ is officially out there. Of course, we know absolutely nothing about the film at all at the moment, but Twitter rumours started over the weekend suggesting that none other than Rosario Dawson, Dwayne Johnson and Cameron Monaghan may be involved in the saga. Of course there is no confirmation from Disney or Lucasfilm on this, or indeed the Carrie Fisher Episode 9 news, but we’re very intrigued.
Episode 9 will be released in 2019. More as it comes our way.
