Han Solo film directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller part company. Sad news for the production

Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm released the following via that statement, posted to StarWars.com.

“Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon.”

The two filmmakers also spoke about their decision to part ways with the project.

“Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew.”

Production on the stand-alone Star Wars movie has been going on for around five months, and we’ve even seen some video posted online from the set, so this can’t be great news for the film.

Variety had the following to say about the exit of the pair:

Miller and Lord were stunned to find that they were not being granted freedom to run the production in the manner that they were accustomed to. They balked at Kennedy’s tight control on the set.

“It was a culture clash from day one,” a source told the trade. “She didn’t even like the way they folded their socks.”

Variety also reports that Ron Howard is a potential to take over the movie but nothing is official as yet.

Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo have been cast in the film with Hail Caesar star Alden Ehrenreich as Solo, the role made famous by Harrison Ford back in the 1970s.

The film, which is still untitled (though a rumoured header was being bundled around the web late last weeK), has a screenplay is written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan and a release date has been set for May 25, 2018, a date that Lucasfilm stress will still be met.

More news as we get it.
