New DC Films Head Appointed Over At Warner Bros.

I must admit, I haven’t personally seen Justice League yet, but the critics’ response, including our own, wasn’t particularly good. While DC Films and Warner Bros. had a particularly good year in 2017, largely due to the response to Wonder Woman, the general consensus is that the movies have a long way to go to match the warmth the Marvel Studios films consistently receive. Well, some news today comes in respect to the hierarchy at the WB with information on a new DC Films head being appointed. Jon Berg is moving on as the co-chair of DC Films, and now Warner Bros has named Walter Harada as the new head of DC Films. Geoff Johns will remain as DC’s President and CCO, and will continue to advise on the movie and television projects and will “work closely” with Harada.

“I’m confident Walter and Geoff, working with our filmmaking partners, will deliver films that will resonate with both broad global audiences as well as DC fanboys and fangirls,” said Warner Bros President and CCO Toby Emmerich to the trade paper Variety.

So, who is Harada? Well, he was previously appointed over at New Line Cinema where he was instrumental in the making of the hugely successful series that started with The Conjuring. The series of horror movies, which have been made for very modest budgets, have made a whopping $300 million plus for the studio. That franchise was started with James Wan, who of course is now heavily involved in post-production on the next big stand-alone DC movie Aquaman, which stars Jason Momoa in the title role. That film is due at the end of the year.

So, what are your thoughts on the new DC Films head? Is this good for all things DC? We’d be keen to hear your thoughts.
