Rooney Mara is an actress on the rise: already seen in David Fincher’s THE SOCIAL NETWORK and the upcoming GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO (also directed by Fincher), Twitch is reporting she is now being mentioned as the top choice for the female lead in the OLDBOY remake.
The character of Mi-do, played by Kang Hye-jeong, has been renamed Marie in the script, which is said to be a mix between Park Chan-wook’s film and the original Manga. The film is reportedly circling around Christian Bale as the villain but representation for the actor has stated that no decisions about future roles will be confirmed until after November. Spike Lee, who will be directing, has already signed on Josh Brolin as the lead character played by Choi Min-shik in the Korean film yet there are rumblings that there maybe some problems with this casting, but no solid news.
Twitch mentions that there has been no formal offer to the actress but they have received this info from the same source which allowed them break the news concerning Josh Brolin being offered and accepting the lead role.
