‘Sicario 2’ Helmer Won’t Direct Third Movie

Stefano Sollima has officially ruled himself out of directing a third Sicario movie. The second one, Sicario 2: Soldado (or Sicario: Day of the Soldado in some territories) is now playing after opening to positive reviews, even if they weren’t quite as glowing as the original, and there has already been talk of another flick to round-out the trilogy. Sollima won’t be behind the camera though.

Speaking to Variety, the filmmaker said: “Every movie in these series needs to be a standalone that stays in the same world,” he said.

“I’d love to watch another chapter of Sicario, but it should be from a different director who has their own specific style.

“You shouldn’t have more than one film from the same director. Then it would be too much like a real franchise,” he added.

Sollima is reportedly off to make a movie based on the video game series Call Of Duty – can’t wait for that!

If you’ve seen the second Sicario film you can probably guess where things may be taken in a third installment. Two things must happen if a third film were to go ahead – Taylor Sheridan must write the screenplay and the actor in the very final scene (I won’t reveal him here because of – you know – spoilers), should also come back to round off his story – he’s the most interesting character in the series IMHO.

Perhaps Sheridan himself should direct?

Sicario 2: Soldado is now playing at a cinema near you.
